What's On
Whats on in Sydney
Sydney is a beautiful city and a fantastic place to explore. With its eye-opening art, theatre and exhibitions, world class sporting events, amazing nightlife and cultural events, and stunning harbours and beaches, there is truly something for everyone.
Sydney St Patrick's Day Parade and Family Day 2011
20 March, 10.30am to 7pm
Over 200 years later, we are still celebrating with an annual street parade and family day on the third Sunday of March – this year on Sunday 20th March 2011.
This year’s Parade will have consist of over 60 floats and marching groups participating, including floats from Irish counties through to Irish sports organisations, Irish dancing school displays as well as a host of musical entertainment - and one for the ladies; the bachelors from the 2011 Irish Bachelor of the Year Awards will be on the Man Float.
The Irish festivities then take over the surrounds of Sydney’s Hyde Park for a day, where spectators can enjoy a range of traditional and modern Irish music performed from the main stage. Food stands will serve Irish and international food and snacks, and beverage stands will cater for all tastes, from Irish tea to a good old glass of Guinness!
There is a designated children’s area in Hyde Park, where families with young children can enjoy learning about Irish culture and music through story-telling and a Bodhran workshop. Children can also enjoy face painting, bouncy castles, clowns, animal rides and music performances.
Mercure Sydney will be celebrating on Thursday 17th at Eve’s Place with Guinness and Irish Stew as well as extended happy hour from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. If you are around on the weekend to enjoy Sydney's festivities you should book your room now. Click here
