Whats on in Sydney
Sydney is a beautiful city and a fantastic place to explore. With its eye-opening art, theatre and exhibitions, world class sporting events, amazing nightlife and cultural events, and stunning harbours and beaches, there is truly something for everyone.
Vivid Sydney 2014!
Now in its 6th year Vivid is one of the most exciting and unique festivals on the Sydney social and creative calendar. Especially due to the fact that it has to compete against the elements and in previous years, Vivid has played out in the throes of Winter. Despite this, each year the festival seems to grow exponentially and already feels like a permanent fixture on the Sydney cultural and artistic scene. This year feels even more exciting with a greater level of anticipation, in part due to the wonderful run of weather we are experiencing but more so due to curiosity for what’s new and how it can improve on the previous year. For me and I’m sure many others, Winter can bum you out with chilly mornings, driving winds and relentless rain and seems like an unnecessary yet compulsory break between the ‘nicer’, brighter and warmer seasons. What Vivid does is provide a distraction to counterbalance the greyness of winter. It encourages us to embrace our city regardless of season and provides stimulation to anyone who tends to just hibernate and wait Winter out.
See Sydney harbour ‘light up’ around foreshore of the Opera House, Circular Quay, The Rocks, Milson’s Point and Walsh Bay at 6pm each night. In particular the lighting of the sails of the Opera House (Western facade) every night seems to set the tone for the evening and is visually spectacular. Greater interaction seems to be an emphasis this year with visitors having various opportunities to directly influence lighting on the bridge (from Milson’s Point) and can interact with Canon photography professionals available along the ‘Light Walk’, Walsh Bay who can assist with helping you take better pictures at night.
Don’t forget to take Vivid in from a different perspective. Vivid Bridgeclimbs are available each evening with a special twist, specialised cruises are running after dark and if you want to see it all at once – take a bird’s eye view from the tower whilst enjoying dinner or a drink.
See you out there!
